Background

The only career I've ever dreamed of was to some day become a teacher. This was later seconded by the desire to be in school forever--not just as a teacher but also as a student. I bring this passion for lifelong learning to my work as an educator across formal and informal spaces. After teaching middle and high school students in West Michigan, I completed my doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and continue to work with the Student-Centered Coaching Certificate program through the office of Professional Learning and Community Education.
In my work, I explore many of the same questions that challenged me as a K-12 teacher. Issues such as what constitutes meaningful literacy instruction, how to integrate educational technologies in transformative ways, how to foster educator professional learning trajectories, and the pressures facing each of these facets in the current era of standardized reform and high-stakes testing are important lines of inquiry in my research.
