I just wanted to share an interesting blog post I came across today by Grant Wiggins, author of the "Learning By Design" planning approach we've used (ie- backwards planning model). In the post, he discusses how flattened trends of reading scores might be indicative of a larger question related to what readers really do, also questioning the assumption that simply studying the habits of effective readers is enough to teach struggling readers how to suddenly read. This is not necessarily a new perspective, especially if you have read anything related to more sociocultural or engagement theories for reading, but I did think it was an interesting question to ponder...
If you follow educational blogs or twitter accounts, he might be an interesting person to add! Comments are closed.
